Bakhtiari rugs are named after the nomads of the Bakhtiari tribe living in the Zagros Mountains. These rugs are well known for their durability, due to the strong and robust wool which is common in the region. While not as fine and soft as the cork wool of other Persian carpets, it has a distinct advantage: it is more resistant to everyday wear and tear.

In many places, Bakhtiari carpets are made with motifs reminiscent of gardens - the so-called Chesti pattern shows motifs with plants and animals from nature. They are inspired by typical Persian gardens.
