These rugs are made in the small town of Bidjar, a small town in western Iran inhabited by Kurds. Kurdish rug making is known for their tight weave, with the pile so strongly compressed that it stands vertically upwards. This way, dirt particles have less of a chance. The positive effect: grains and small stones do not get into the floor as quickly and a long life of the carpet is thus guaranteed.

Persian carpets made in Bidjar are available in almost all sizes. Their high knotting density of up to 600.000 knots shows the great effort that goes into their production. As their patterns are often restrained and not very obtrusive, they can be used in many environments.

The small Kurdish town looks back on a long heritage of rug weaving. In traditional production, one usually finds the Herati pattern. It is reminiscent of a flower with four leaves. It is also called a fish pattern - mahi in Persian. But the Herati pattern also offers the weaver a wealth of design possibilities: Whether classically or modernly interpreted - there is something for almost every taste.
