An elegant Kashan Mohtasham medallion rug. This astonishing rug can safely be attributed to the workshop of master weaver Hajji Mullah Muhammed Hashem Mohtasham, who was active through the second half of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century. The sensitive color shadings of this Mahtashammasterpiece is an intentional technique, known as abrash. The subtle and continual use of the abrash technique in Mahtasham carpets gives visual depth, that is akin to that of a watercolor painting.
