Born in Persia and shaped by a lifetime of exile in Paris, Andalusia, and North Africa, Firouz FarmanFarmaian draws inspiration from history, memory, and post-tribal influences. His artistic vision aims to bridge dialogues between past and future, East and West, and ancient craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Each composition within his ever-evolving body of work exudes a vibrant and spontaneous energy, accompanied by profound symbolism that touches upon planet preservation, art, and philosophy.

Following FarmanFarmaian’s Artist representation and Cultural Ambassadorship for the Kyrgyz National Pavilion at the 59th Biennale di Venezia with an immersive community-oriented textile-based work - GATES OF TURAN - which was the culmination of a year of nomadic co-existence with the tribal Kyrgyz craftswomen of the Tien Shan Range, The Shyrdak Series come as the natural collaborative continuum with Kyrgyz tribal nomadic culture.

‘It felt good and virtuous to develop felt based rug oriented units - Shyrdaks -  with the Alyn Kol craftswomen of the Naryn valley, pushing forth and solidifying my adventure into the vortex of ancient nomadic Central Asian semiology’.
